The Butter Tongues defeated the Triblelife 2-1 to advance to the division championship. Jason Murphy went head to head against Tribe pitcher Mike King. Both were on their game in this low scoring affair. It was 0-0 until the Butter Tongues started to wake up and George Merusi ripped a double to score 2 runs. The game would stay this score until Mike King roped a solo home run to get the Tribe within 1 run, but it wouldn't be enough.
The Basshole/Sasquatch game rivaled that of the Pawtucket Red Sox game that lasted 33 innings. Starting pitchers Dave Fisher and Brett Bergamini were mowing down hitters all game long. Jon Anderson started off with a solo home run and the game would stay this score until Dave Sullivan would get his game tying RBI via walk. Then starts the marathon. Another 6 scoreless innings would pass until the Sasquatch made it a 2-1 game in the top of the 12th. There was an atmosphere in the room that the Sasquatch would be playing for the Grenade Division crown until big man Tim McGeown crushed a walk off grand slam to end the game Bassholes 5, Sasquatch 2.
With the Butter Tongues and Bassholes advancing to the next round, they would each face the Nockers and Chiefs, respectively.
Jason Murphy took the mound again with Nick O'Keefe opposing him. The Butter Tongues got off to the an early 3-0 lead with a series of singles and doubles in the top of the 1st inning. Some experts thought it was over at that moment. The Nockers started chipping away when Dave Niemaszyk and Nick O'Keefe both hit solo shots in the bottom of the 3rd, but were still down a run. In the next inning the Nockers were threatening with the bases loaded with only 1 out. Murphy composed himself to get out of the inning with only 1 run scoring. It was now a tied game and would remain that way going into extra innings. Both relief pitchers did a stellar job, pitching a scoreless 6 inning, but in the bottom of the 7th, Tim Anderson led the Nockers off with a double and O'Keefe followed up with a walk off triple to advance the Nockers to the NEAWL championship.
After hours of waiting for the first game complete, the Chiefs finally were able to take the field against the Bassholes. John Hazell and David Fisher would continue their rivalry as the two starting pitchers for this affair. Dave Sullivan broke the 0-0 tie with a 3 run blast to take the games first lead. Tim McGeown gave Fisher some run insurance and hit his 2nd home run of the playoffs to give the Bassholes a 5 run lead. Fisher was lights out for the Bassholes, going the distance with 0 runs against. The Bassholes defeated the Chiefs 5-0 and will return to the championship series for the 2nd time in as many years.
The Bassholes will meet the Nockers next week for the NEAWL championship, which is primed to be a great match. These teams met only once this season with Fisher going against O'Keefe which ended in a 1-1 tie.
