After giving up a run in the first, O’Keefe was the first BT to step to the plate, squaring off against the Tribe’s no. 1 starter, Mike King. O’Keefe only needed one pitch, as he unloaded on it, and started his 2013 Spring/Summer season with a lead-off home run. BT GM Matt Mullen looked like a little kid on Christmas, swooning over his franchise player from the winter season. King too settled down, not allowing any more runs in the first.
The game remained tight, going into the bottom of the 3rd a 1 run game. After giving up another run and getting 2 outs, King started to falter, and couldn’t find the strike zone. Tribe GM Phill Naylor came in to finish off the inning, eventually getting the third out, but not before allowing some inherited runners to score. The BT’s capitalized on this pitching change, and added a few more insurance runs in the 4th.
O’Keefe closed it out in the 5th for Bay State. Recording their first win, of which they hope there are many more as they start their journey towards a repeat NEAWL Championship appearance. Final Score, Butter Tongues 12, Tribe 1.
